Code of Conduct for Students

The Co-op should be seen as an extension of the Christian home, working cooperatively to help students grow and develop in ways that are pleasing to God. Disrespectful, disobedient and inconsiderate behavior is displeasing to God and hurtful to brothers and sisters in the Lord. Therefore, we affirm the following positive virtues:

  • Love (Eph. 5:1, I Cor. 13, 16:14) – Do everything in love.

  •
  • Respect (Rom. 13:7) – Respect for authority, property, safety, and rights of others.

  •
  • Obedience (Eph. 6:1) –Students must obey teachers, since parents delegate responsibility and authority to them while at the Co-op.

  •
  • Encouraging Words (Ps. 34:13, Eph. 4:29) – Let’s build each other up (no sarcasm or teasing), not offend (with vulgar or profane language) or lie to one another.

  •
  • Good Manners (Phil. 2:3) – Good manners are based on considering others’ needs ahead of our own; therefore, students may not interrupt a conversation, and should always wait to be recognized before speaking during a class session.

  •
  • Self-Control (Gal. 5:22, 23; I Thes. 5:8) – Displays of affection for the opposite sex (such as handholding) are not evidences of self-control in this setting and we would ask for restraint out of consideration for others. Walking is the only means of getting around the building. Clothing should not draw attention to oneself (immodest, tight-fitting clothing, or clothing that portrays a message contrary to a Christian witness is inappropriate).

STEPS TO RESOLVING POOR CONDUCT

    1. Exhortation/discussion between teacher and student.
    2. Behavioral observations written down and discussed with student and other staff member.
    3. Communication with home will occur upon first incident.
    4. Resolution between teacher and student occurs.
    5. Unresolved conduct results in dismissal from the class and possibly the co-op.
